Holy Spirit Welcomes International Students

Holy Spirit High School welcomes international students, who are an important part of the Holy Spirit family.
We offer a small, safe and caring environment. Our college preparatory curriculum includes Advanced Placement and Honors courses.  We offer extensive co-curricular opportunities, including 25 athletic teams, more than 28 clubs and activities and an extensive visual and performing arts program. We are a dynamic Catholic Community dedicated to educating young women and men to realize their full potential.  In fact, 99% of graduating seniors go on to pursue higher education.
Our unique location in Absecon, NJ affords students exposure to the culture and events of local shore towns, as well as major cities such as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and New York City.
We define the term international student as a student who is not a U.S. citizen, does not hold a U.S. passport and is not a permanent resident of the U. S. These are the students for whom we will need to issue a form I-20 and who will need an F-1 visa to enter the U.S.

Application Information for International Students

  • Submit the application for international students. Holy Spirit High School accepts international students for the start of fall semester only.
  • If you are currently enrolled in high school, in the US or another country, send transcripts of all high school work completed up to the time of your application. Transcripts and course descriptions must be in English. The official school transcript (in English) on school letterhead must be provided, or the transcript must carry the official school stamp. If you are in 8th grade now, provide a transcript for 8th grade and 7th grade from your current school.

  • Provide (2) two letters of recommendation; one from an English teacher, and one from another current teacher or administrator.

  • Provide a TOEFL test summary and score report. The TOEFL test must have been taken within a year of the date of your application. Holy Spirit High School accepts only TOEFL scores.

  • Provide a copy of the student’s passport with legible photo and data, original bank statement and affidavit provided by the international admissions office. You may send the required documents to: Holy Spirit High School Enrollment Director, 500 S. New Road, Absecon, NJ 08201

  • Once these documents have been received and reviewed, an interview with the Enrollment Director will be arranged through the applicant or the applicant’s agent.

  • International student applicants must demonstrate proficiency in all areas of English: writing, speaking, listening, and reading.

  • Contact the Enrollment Director, Mr. Jason Downey at  (609) 646-3000 to arrange an interview by phone, Skype, or in person.

  • The Guidance Office will review the documents, discuss the interview, and make a decision on the application for admission. In some cases, a second interview may be required.

  • Once accepted, students must provide a health record that shows up-to-date immunizations, and physical exam.

  • The health record must be complete and immunizations must be current in order for the student to be admitted to campus to participate in any events, class orientation day, or the first day of school. No exceptions will be made.

  • Notice to all international students! Always inform the Guidance Office of any travel plans or changes in your visit status or school enrollment! Anytime you travel outside the United States, documents must be signed. Even if you are planning to leave the United States for only a short time and will be returning, i.e. Christmas break. You should contact the Guidance Office at least 10 days before a planned departure. If you experience any problems with I-20 documents or F1 visa alert the Admissions Office immediately (609) 646-3000 x413. Remember, you must travel with I-20 and F1 documents on your person. Do not pack them in your luggage.

  • Our International Students Program is designed to be long-term, leading to the award of a diploma. We are not a short-term “exchange” program. Students studying with us have an F1 or other long-term visa, not a short-term, J1 visa. The HSHS Guidance Office will assist students in obtaining an I-20 in order to obtain an F1 visa. All students accepted to study at Holy Spirit are expected to be in attendance on all days scheduled on the school calendar. Regular attendance is mandatory and is in the best interest of the student and Holy Spirit High School.
