Dress Code

DRESS AND GROOMING REGULATIONS

All students are expected to know and follow these regulations exactly throughout the year. They are in effect from arrival until the student leaves the school property at the end of the school day.
 
All Girls:
 
Fall and Spring periods
  • Administration will make the decision as to when students are allowed to follow the relaxed or “spring” dress code. The announcement will be made in school after the winter season. Students MAY report to school in the relaxed or “spring dress code” at the beginning of the school year.
  • Uniform plaid skort not to be altered, rolled at the waist or cut. Skort length cannot be more than 4 inches above the knee.
Sanction: The first failure to adhere to the 4-inch skort rule will result in a warning; the second violation will result in the student forfeiting her privilege of wearing the skort for the rest of the academic year.
  • Uniform polo shirt with HSHS logo.
  • Navy blue or black stockings can be worn during the fall and spring period.
  • Only regulation school shoes purchased from the uniform company can be worn.
  • Make up and jewelry must be moderate and appropriate. Excessive ornamentation or facial jewelry is not permitted. (Except a SMALL nose stud will be permitted.) Tongue rings are not permitted.
  • No hats or bandanas are to be worn.
  • Extremes in hairstyles will not be permitted which includes sculpting or non-natural hair coloring.
 
Winter period:
  • During the year ladies will have an option in dress code. Ladies will be able to wear uniform khaki pants available through Flynn and O’Hara ONLY in place of the skort, no exceptions. Failure to wear the “UNIFORM” pants will result in student being sent home.
  • Ladies will wear button down oxford blouses during the winter dress code period. Acceptable colors are: white, light blue, dark blue or yellow. Failure to adhere to this will result in a dress code violation.
  • Uniform sweater - navy long sleeve V-neck only with the Holy Spirit logo (not oversized), the school sanctioned letter sweater, with an earned and sewn on “HS” Varsity letter, or sweater vests, all of which are available through Flynn and O’Hara.
  • Navy blue or black tights or navy opaque hose must be worn by all ladies during the winter period.

  • The zip-up fleece jacket is NO LONGER an option for the Winter uniform.
 
All Boys:
 
Fall and Spring periods
  • Administration will make the decision as to when students are allowed to follow the relaxed or “summer” dress code. The announcement will be made in school after the winter season. Students MAY report to school in the relaxed or “summer” dress code at the beginning of the school year.
  • Khaki pants available from Flynn and O’Hara ONLY. The pants are available through their website. Belts must be worn and slacks must be worn at the natural waist and must be no longer than the top of the shoes. Failure to wear the “UNIFORM” pants will result in student being sent home.
  • Uniform polo shirt with HSHS logo.
  • Socks must be worn at all times.
  • Only regulation school shoes purchased from the uniform company can be worn.
  • Boys may not wear earrings or facial jewelry. Tongue rings are not permitted. Band aids may not be used to cover earrings.
  • No hats or bandanas.
  • Boys must be clean shaven. No mustaches, beards, goatees, soul patches, etc. Violation of this rule will result in the student being sent home to shave. Sideburns must be no longer than their earlobes. In the event that medical circumstances create a situation in which shaving is not recommended, medical confirmation by a Certified Dermatologist must be presented to the Dean of Students within three (3) school days.
  • Hair should be worn and cut above the collar. Extremes in hairstyles will not be permitted‚ which includes excessive length‚ sculpting, mohawks, tails, buns, etc., or non-natural hair coloring. Above the collar MEANS above the collar, not over the collar.
 
Winter period:
  • Boys will wear an Oxford Button Down Dress Shirt and a tie. The shirt MUST be one of the following three (3) colors: white, light blue or dark blue. Ties must be knotted correctly and can be of any color, BUT MUST NOT HAVE ANY OFFENSIVE IMAGES OR WRITING ON THEM. Failure to adhere to this will result in the student being sent home to change into the correct uniform.
  • Uniform sweater - navy long sleeve V- neck with the Holy Spirit logo (not oversized), the school sanctioned letter sweater, with an earned and sewn on “HS” Varsity letter, or sweater vests, all of which are available through Flynn and O’Hara.

That which is deemed to be not in accordance with the rules will be determined at the sole discretion of the Dean of Students. Students who do not adhere to dress regulations will be sent home.
 
The only acceptable uniform articles are those from Flynn & O’Hara, the designated uniform company.

Students must remain in school uniform until they leave school property.
 
CASUAL DAYS
  1. Casual does not mean sloppy. Clothing is to be clean, neat, presentable and in good taste.
  2. Shirts with profane, suggestive or inflammatory messages, slogans, or illustrations are not permitted.
  3. No transparent clothing may be worn.
  4. No midriff, halter, tank tops, shorts, spandex leggings, workout clothing of any kind, or low cut jeans of any type are permitted.
  5. No frayed, ripped or tattered clothing is permitted.
  6. Skirts should be of an appropriate length for school.
  7. No earrings on boys.
  8. No hats or bandanas.
  9. No flip-flops or backless shoes or sports sandals
