The Cappies

Our award-winning (Teen Arts county and State level for The World Will Know - Newsies) HSHS Musical Theater Program is the 1st school in Atlantic County AND the 1st school in the Diocese to be part of the Southern NJ Chapter of Cappies, an international organization created to celebrate theater and journalism.

Our critics are:
  • Lorena Saavedra (lead critic)
  • Eliana Labroli
  • Morgan Murphy
  • Brian Palin
  • Mariah Nell
  • Armani Mensah
  • Eve Amalfitano
  • Ben Young
Our critics will travel to see and critique the following productions:
  • Frozen, The Broadway Musical at Eastern RHS
  • You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown at Clayton HS
  • Legally Blonde at Winslow Twp. HS
  • The Wedding Singer at Lindenwold HS
SNJ Cappie schools choose up to eight students involved in theatre and/or journalism who are then trained as Cappie Critics. Your school’s critics travel either by school transportation or on their own (at the discretion of each school) to other participating high schools to watch a show and write a critique. The top critiques for each show are then published with Follow South Jersey and on the NJ Cappies Website.

At the conclusion of each show, the Cappies select nominees in performance and non-performance categories to be recognized at the close of the school year at our Gala. The Gala (similar to the Tony Awards ceremony) brings all of the participating schools together to celebrate their work and support each other. There are also scholarship opportunities available to outstanding students from prestigious film and acting schools.
The other schools that participate are:
  • Clayton High School
  • Delsea regional High School
  • Eastern Regional High School
  • Lindenwold High School
  • Overbrook High School
  • Pennsauken High School
  • Rancocas Valley Regional High School
  • Shallick High School
  • Winslow Township High School
